Hello! Welcome.
Thank you for your interest in financial coaching with THE THOMAS SLATCOFF FINANCIAL LITERACY INSTITUTE.
The data is clear. Americans have a financial literacy problem.[1]
Financial literacy is the knowledge and competence of how to deal with money.[2]
The story behind my financial coaching business is this: I have an obligation to reach out and offer my financial coaching services globally. That is my purpose in life, after self-deliberation, to find a new direction after exiting the rat race and still walking on earth at the grace of my God. And I will, until I pass from here.
I know people struggle financially. I, too, have struggled financially. However, I invested in myself with financial literacy training and learned how to manage my money effectively. Now I live a financially stress-free life. And I am all the better for it. I do not understand why those who struggle financially do not seek help. Perhaps those people are unwilling to sacrifice to achieve financial freedom. But “The Greater the Sacrifice. The Greater the gain.”[3]
People often lack the proper money mindset and the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviors that enable them to make informed money decisions. Here are 10 statistics compiled by Samantha Rose in her article 10 Eye-Opening Financial Literacy Statistics[4] that illustrate the state of financial literacy in America.
No. 1: 56% of adults are financially anxious
No. 2: 22% of U.S. adults lack an emergency fund
No. 3: 61% of adults live paycheck to paycheck
No. 4: Almost three quarters of Americans budget on a monthly basis
No. 5: Over half of youths aged 15 – 18 failed a financial literacy quiz
No. 6: 35 states scored a C, D, or F for high school financial literacy
No. 7: 90% of millennials are in debt
No. 8: 60% of adults had credit card debt in the past year
No. 9: 50% of adults experience barriers to homeownership
No. 10: Less than one-third of adults are confident their retirement savings will last
A key fact from the report, Financial Literacy Statistics in the U.S. 2035[5]
“The state of financial literacy in America continues to present significant challenges as we progress through 2025. Despite increased awareness and educational initiatives, millions of Americans still struggle with basic financial concepts that are essential for making sound economic decisions.”
These statistics are two reasons I remain ‘enthusiastically poised’ to help people gain, enhance, or refine their financial literacy, enabling them to prosper.
A third reason is an observation of mine that I will roll into two questions.
Parents search for and provide sports coaches for their children’s sporting interests. That has been going on for over fifty years, which I am aware of. And the parents pay a hefty fee for the sports coaching services. Most of those children end their sports careers after high school or college, as only a small number of players go on to the professional level and earn an income.
What is the child’s return on investment for the sports coach?
Statistics indicate that parents are not seeking a financial literacy coach for their children. There is no investment in training the child to handle money successfully. If parents were, it would result in a return on investment that would last a lifetime.
Why aren’t parents searching for a financial literacy coach for their children?
I reiterate the key fact from the report, “Financial Literacy Statistics in the U.S. 2025”[6], which states, “The state of financial literacy in America continues to present significant challenges as we progress through 2025.”
Then I ask, Why aren’t parents searching for a financial literacy coach for their children with the say gusto as they search for a sports coach?
I completed the Ramsey Financial Coach Master Training, refining my skills in financial coaching. With my refined financial coaching skills, my real-life personal financial experiences, my study of proven principles and practices to achieve, and my experience as an instructor and lecturer, I coach clients through a step-by-step plan for the client to become accustomed to a unique way of handling their money and financial affairs to become debt-free and prosper.
I want to be your financial coach so you can achieve your dreams. People can achieve what they set for themselves to achieve. At times, they need a helping hand. I am extending my hand to help you gain financial literacy.
My services are not free because clients would only be involved. Clients need to be committed. It’s like the business fable of The Chicken and the Pig when the chicken suggested to the pig that they open a breakfast restaurant that would serve eggs, and ham or bacon. The pig would be committed, and the chicken would be involved. People must be committed to themselves to prosper with their most valuable wealth-building toil, their income.
What say you? Do your finances stress you out? Are you living paycheck to paycheck? Do you have a good budget model to tell your money where to go? Do you lack an emergency fund? Have you ever had financial literacy training? Do you want to prosper financially?
