Financial Literacy is the knowledge and competence of how to deal with money.

People do not ask a single question about financial literacy or financial coaching. Not a single verbal comment. Their nonverbal expressions display confusion, disgust, and, on a rare occasion, a hint of curiosity. Yet, they do not ask any questions. Not a single question or comment. This is a fact from my personal observation from behind numerous vendor tables that SLATCOFF AND COMPANY LLC has set up to market THE THOMAS SLATCOFF FINANCIAL LITERACY INSTITUTE Dollars and Sense Financial Literacy Workshop and financial coaching on one side of the table and THOMAS SLATCOFF BOOKS on the other side of the table. Many people stop and peruse the novels, Christmas stories, and short story. Thank you. But they quickly move away from the other side of the table.

For those passersby and everyone, financial literacy is the knowledge and competence of how to deal with money. (National Financial Educators Council) Likely, you never had any training or exposure to a strategy of how to deal with your money.

Interesting to know that people who are successful with money do not talk about their success. They keep the how they did it a secret. Watch the YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H13eUTEklEg with Robert Kiyosaki. The rich want to keep the poor, poor.

What I find odd about the lack of questions is eight out of ten people live paycheck to paycheck according to the article Living Paycheck To Paycheck Statistics 2024 (https://www.forbes.com/advisor/banking/living-paycheck-to-paycheck-statistics-2024/ ) The article defines living paycheck to paycheck as “a financial scenario in which an individual or family’s income barely covers essential living expenses like housing, utilities, groceries and transportation. One missed paycheck would put someone living paycheck to paycheck in a difficult spot.”

So, 78% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. That is, 8 out of 10 people live where one missed paycheck would put them and/or their family in a difficult spot. Look around you and count 10 people. 8 of those 10 live paycheck to paycheck. Are you one of the eight?

Yet I observe the passersby at the table. They glance at the displayed financial literacy information and then walk away. They do not ask a single question.

Two other statistics to ponder: (1) 53% of all adults are financially anxious. Are you financially anxious? (2) 4 in 5 youths failed a financial literacy quiz. How would your children, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren do on a financial literacy quiz?

The St. Nicholas Day financial literacy special would make a valuable Christmas gift for those who need financial coaching. A gift that will continue to be given year after year.
